Students Serve is run completely by volunteers, so over 95% of contributions go directly to student serviceships. In addition, Students Serve does not maintain a physical office location, which further reduces the overhead and basic costs of operating a nonprofit.
Because the students who receive serviceships are not being paid for their time and energy, donations to Students Serve go even further. The money only pays for the cost of materials and supplies that are necessary in order to make their community initiatives come to life.
The volunteer staff members really believe in the work done by this organization, so much so that they put their money where their values are. In addition to giving their time, staffers frequently make financial contributions to Students Serve.
